Online Master of Business Administration in Human Resource
Management
The following Master of Business Administration program with
specialization is Human Resources Management (MBA/HRM) is offered
at these University of Phoenix campus locations: Tulsa, Puerto Rico
and Online.
The MBA/HRM
program is designed to meet the needs of a broad but unique population
- the working adult manager or supervisor who could benefit from
a graduate business education. Because the tools of the human
resources management science are applicable to the problems of
the public sector as well as the private sector, students whose
career interests involve not-for-profit enterprise are also encouraged
to seek admission. The MBA/HRM program requires a practical background
in business, and the successful candidate will have a least three
years of relevant experience.
The various
components of the program-curriculum, learning resources, and
faculty- have been selected to produce specified outcomes. These
outcomes, while reflecting contemporary academic practice, also
focus on the functional competencies required of working manager.
Thus, the MBA/HRM program emphasizes the identification, analysis,
and solution of complex human resources management problems that
require technical understanding and blackened decision making.
Although a functional knowledge of managerial economics, accounting,
finance, quantitative analysis, and human resources management
underlies the program, equal attention is given to the development
of report writing, oral reporting, and group processing skills.
Students develop
additional expertise in the solution of persistent human resources
management problems through the completion of a research project,
which relates the student's professional interests or responsibilities
of the goal of improved human resources managerial functioning.
The research project on human resources management, therefore,
serves not only to provide a vehicle for the application of theory
to practice, but also serves to demonstrate that the MBA/HRM candidate
can perform in a variety of sophisticated management roles with
the confidence and self-discipline expected of the MBA/HRM program
graduate.
The program
involves a variety of learning formats, depending upon the subject
matter and competencies to be developed. These formats include
lecture, seminar, team teaching, and self-directed learning.
The MBA/HRM
program has a 46-credit requirement. All course work must be completed
satisfactorily or be repeated. All course work must be satisfactorily
completed prior to taking the Research Project in Human Resources
Management.
Research
Project in Human Resources Management - Managerial Business Plan
One of the major program activities for the MBA/HRM degree is
the successful completion of a research project in the form of
a Managerial Business Plan in the field of Human Resources Management.
The Managerial Business Plan must satisfy the requirements established
for its presentation, procedure, theoretical framework development,
and content analysis. The Managerial Business Plan will reflect
the student's ability to apply the knowledge, experiences and
skills relevant to the solution of a specific business problem.
The MBA Managerial Business Plan, begun in the Research Methodology
Seminar (BUS/581) and completed in the Research Project in Human
Resources (HRM/582), is an exercise in practical, professional
human resources management and planning. It allows for the synthesis
and integration of theory and practice developed throughout the
student's graduate program in business and human resources management,
and apply that learning and experience toward the solution of
"real" business problems or situation in his or her
place of employment, relative to his or her discipline in the
graduate business program. The managerial business plan provides
the opportunity for the student to demonstrate his or her specific
applied knowledge, skill, and professional development relating
to the aggregate curriculum and will result in the following:
1. Review
an organization or current business situation.
2. Identify and develop a situation statement requiring a formal
Management Business Plan.
3. Identify specific company activities/functions affected by
the Managerial Business Plan.
4. Identify and utilize primary (proprietary) and secondary (public)
sources of information relevant to the business situation being
studied.
5. Process the foundational components contributing to the preparation
of a formal managerial business plan.
6. Prepare a formal Managerial Business Plan.
